selection criteria

  • Nancy Giron - Mexico, Northern Kentucky University
  • Personal Statement - Please include a two page essay addressing your heritage background, academic achievements, and personal qualities such as motivation, leadership and potential for future success and contributions to the community.
  • One letter of recommendation from a high school teacher, a community leader or a college professor.
  • Please include complete and official transcripts issued by the high school, college, university, or trade school.
  • Scholarship finalists will be requested to submit a short video (2 minutes maximum) for the "Student of the Year" award.

2017 student of the year

2017 ELL Foundation Scholarship Recipients 

English Language Learning Foundation, Inc.

Was established to provide opportunities to English learners who have the desire to continue their higher education at accredited area colleges and universities.  Current, our annual goal is to provide scholarships worth $500 - $1,000 each to deserving ELL students. 

To this date, scholarships have been awarded to students attending the following local universities:

  • Complete the English Language Learning Foundation, Inc., application.
  • Submit and official high school/college/GED transcript.
  • Submit two letters of recommendation.
  • Submit a two page, personal statement.

Since 2006, the ELL Foundation has provided a total of $87,750 in scholarships to deserving ELL students.  Help us continue to assist our local ELL students by making a contribution today!

the English language learning foundation scholarship program

application requirements

  • Be an English language learner and be a resident of the Greater Cincinnati or Northern Kentucky area.
  • Be an undergraduate student or have applied and been accepted at:
    • A college or university.
    • Be enrolled in a two year community college program.
    • Or be enrolled in a trade program that, when completed, may result in a license or permit to practice a given trade.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale in high school/college (or 3.5 on a 5.0 scale), or GED standard average score of 650.
  • Have previously volunteered in civic and/or community services.
  • Complete 20 hours of community services at ELLF program/events or with approval of ELLF at community partners.*

*Community partners include Su Casa Hispanic Center, Santa Maria Community Services, Hispanic Chamber, Cincinnati Public Schools or schools from other districts as a tutor.
